Well it happened, gas prices dropped to $2.79 a gallon. What the heck does this have to do with getting Codeweavers for free?....read on.
Well you have to go back to July of 2008 to see what has happened here. First off, in case you don't know exactly what Codeweavers is, Codeweavers is a software program that allows Mac and Linux users the ability to run Windows software, without the need for a Windows OS License.
Ok, let's jump back to July of 2008, Codeweavers launched the Great American Lame Duck Presidential Challenge. This was to challenge President Bush to make the most of his remaining days in office, by accomplishing a major political or or economic goal by January 20th, 2009.
One item in particular was the goal for President Bush to help bring down the average price of gasoline in St. Paul, MN to $2.79 per gallon. And lo and behold, on Monday, October 14th, guess what the price of a gallon of gas was in the Twin Cities...yup, $2.79 a gallon.
And although Jeremy White, president and CEO of CodeWeavers, was obviously happy about the drop in price for gas, it isn't going to do wonders for the companies 4th quarter revenues. The current price, at the time of this writing, for Codeweavers software is $59.99 from Amazon. Suggested list price is $69.95.
So true to their word, Codeweavers is offer free downloads of their software for one day. That day is today, October 28th, 2008. Now as I sit here typing I tried to head over to the Codeweavers main website, http://www.codeweavers.com, and recieved the following message: Firefox is unable to connect to the site www.codeweavers.com. I bumped around a bit and tried again and got a 500 Internal Server Error message.
I would guess it's safe to say they are getting hammered at the moment by people trying to get their hands on the free software. The free download is supposed to be for just one day, and they were quoted as saying they would stop giving out free serial numbers as of 23:59, (Midnight) Central Standard Time.
Whether or not they will extend the time as a result of downtime from heavy server load remains to be seen. But in the meantime, if you are trying to get your hands on your own copy of the software all I can say is keep trying, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
